Our factory’s asphalt tanks are heated using heat transfer oil, and the asphalt is loaded directly into vehicles. If it comes from an asphalt molding machine, it is loaded onto vehicles using a crane; there is no situation like what you mentioned. The most traditional method is to place the asphalt on the ground once it is ready, cover it with wire, cut it into pieces using that wire when it’s almost cooled down, and then load it manually onto vehicles; however, this method is rarely used these days.
To prevent direct contact between asphalt and the human body, in addition to mechanical handling, proper packaging of the asphalt should also be ensured. Based on several years of experience, it is better to use iron drums for liquid asphalt, and bamboo or wicker baskets lined with kraft paper (the amount of kraft paper can be determined depending on the distance of transportation, the hardness of the asphalt, and weather conditions) or double-layer grass bags for solid asphalt. Of course, local materials can be used to create other types of packaging, such as *bags and straw bags, but the use of new packaging must be approved by the labor department. Due to the lower toxicity of petroleum asphalt, the packaging mentioned above can be simplified. The packaging of asphalt should be complete and secure to prevent the scattering of asphalt powder. If there is a small amount of inadequate packaging resulting in powder leakage, water can be sprayed on the surface of the asphalt to moisten it before handling. In this way, the dispersion of asphalt dust can also be eliminated.
