I have a question: are there any tubular heat exchangers in which the inlet and outlet temperatures on the shell side are set to be equal? For example, I saw that in some towers, the steam temperatures at the inlet and outlet of the regeneration solution boiler’s shell side were both 160°. Why are the inlet and outlet temperatures equal? What is then the purpose of the heat exchanger?
There is only one possible answer: that is, latent heat is involved, meaning the material has undergone a phase change.
The view on the 2nd floor is correct; the devices mentioned by the original poster are either towers, condensers, evaporators, or other types of equipment that cause a change in the phase state of fluids, and such phenomena can occur with them. The heat exchanger referred to here is one in which steam on the shell side condenses, releasing latent heat that is used to heat the material in the tube side and cause it to boil. “Are the inlet and outlet steam temperatures both 160°”? The outlet should be condensate water, not “steam”. This type of equipment also belongs to the category of heat exchangers, and is called an evaporator or a reboiler.
