Could you please explain what the concept of sectioning the number of trays in the SW6 column calculation is? For example, in a column where the cylinder is divided into 3 sections and the trays are divided into 2 sections, do the corresponding height sections of the trays correspond to the corresponding height sections of the column cylinder? SW6 is a strength calculation software; the tower sections referred to here are the divisions of the tower’s external structure, with three such sections, and the tower body has three different diameters. It is possible to enter the elevations for the packing and the tray separately; the cylinder’s elevations are entered based on its material and wall thickness, and sections with varying diameters can also be included
The cylinder is divided into 3 sections; it may have a varying diameter, with the wall thickness generally decreasing gradually as the diameter remains constant. The SW6 documentation states that a cylinder with the same diameter and thickness can be treated as one section, but if it is very long, the program will automatically divide it into multiple sections for calculation. As for the segmentation of trays, it is required by the process calculations and is not directly related to the segmentation of the tower body.
I believe that in the segmented calculation of tower shells, the software SW6 does not perform automatic segmentation; instead, it is up to the designer to determine how many segments would be most appropriate based on the actual design conditions, especially for tower shells with the same diameter.
So, in the design of a tower with a diameter and height of 30 meters, how should we divide it into sections, and how should we determine the thickness of each section of the tower’s shell, in order to achieve the most reasonable design while also reducing the material costs associated with the tower?
