Coal chemical industry is the process of converting coal into gaseous, liquid, and solid fuels as well as chemical products through chemical processing using coal as raw material. Classified by the coal processing methods, coal chemical industry includes coal carbonization (including coking and low-temperature carbonization), coal gasification, coal liquefaction, and synthetic chemical products. In addition to the common characteristics of chemical production, coal chemical production has its own unique features, which are as follows: 1. Many substances that are flammable, explosive, and toxic. Many of the finished products, semi-finished products, and by-products in coal chemical production are chemical hazards, such as gas, ammonia, crude benzene, etc., which are prone to combustion and explosion ; Substances such as carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, and phenol can cause poisoning. 2. High-temperature outdoor operations generate a lot of dust and fumes. Coking is carried out at high temperatures in coke ovens, and working outdoors in such conditions increases the risk of burns and heat injuries, as well as heatstroke during summer. Coke ovens and gasifiers produce large amounts of dust and fumes containing harmful substances such as benzopyrene, SO2, NOx, H2S, CO, and NH3, which pose threats to the health of workers and cause environmental pollution. 3. The production process requires stringent conditions: high-temperature coking must take place in an air-free environment, with temperatures reaching 950–1050 degrees℃ ; In the recycling of chemical products, there are many chemical processing equipment and machinery; failures in protective devices, operational errors, or improper handling can all lead to serious consequences. 4. Expansion of production scale and automation of production processes. Taking coking as an example, the height of the carbonization chamber in coking ovens has increased from around 4 meters to 6–8 meters, while the length has risen from about 13 meters to 16–17 meters. The volume of each carbonization chamber has increased from around 25 m3 to about 50 m3, and the amount of coal that can be loaded into each oven per batch has increased from 20 tons to 40 tons. The level of automation in coke oven production is continuously improving, with a large number of mechanical devices working together; there are many moving equipment, transport vehicles, mechanical devices, and electrical equipment.
