Question: What is the difference in data volume between HART instruments and FF instruments? Generally, don’t such smart meters involve a large amount of data? What amount of data does the FF instrument mainly transmit? What is the difference between periodic and aperiodic?
1. Control functions are distributed to field devices FF – using a publisher/subscriber communication model, which enables field devices from different manufacturers to communicate with each other, exchange data, and work together on a single network. They regularly communicate and exchange data over the network, working together on the same network. Time is periodically broadcasted to all devices on the network, ensuring that all devices have synchronized time. This allows functional blocks to be executed at precise intervals and in order, as well as to trigger alerts accurately; therefore, FF can perform control functions in field devices. 2. Achieving true interoperability: The user layer specific to the FF-FF communication protocol defines 29 standard functional modules to implement basic control functions. These functional modules are built into various field devices, enabling easy interoperability among them. The application layer of the FF communication protocol utilizes device description (DD) technology. Even though devices from different manufacturers are equipped with various control functions, by providing the user with the DD file of that device, the upper-level system can immediately understand all its features and parameters, configure it, enabling plug-and-play operation. 3. True openness: The FF Fieldbus Foundation ensures that for each of its technologies, there are multiple suppliers who develop it into commercial products; if no such multiple suppliers are involved in the development, the foundation refuses to make that technology available. The foundation’s board of directors is composed of members from 11 different companies. 4. Enables easy creation of control systems FF – When a new device is connected to the network, its address on the network is automatically assigned, achieving true plug-and-play functionality. It can automatically prevent the repeated assignment of addresses, ensuring that each device has one address. Devices can be searched on the network by workstation number, without having to consider where that workstation number was registered.
