For beam-type gas-jet packing support plates (HG/T21512-1995), I would like to discuss one of its components: the edge ring of the support plate. The function of this edge ring is to define the position of the support plate and to direct the descending liquid flow onto it. In my opinion, this edge ring can be completely eliminated for the following reasons: 1. The support plate does not need this component to define its position; its location can be determined using clamps, and there is a certain gap between the clamps and the tower ring, which allows for compensation for the elliptical shape of the tower. Having this edge ring actually increases the complexity of installing the support plate, as well as the requirements regarding the precision and roundness of both the ring and the support plate. 2. The descending liquid flow also does not require this component to be directed; it will naturally flow from the tower ring onto the support plate, as there is no other place for it to go. Moreover, the gap between the edge ring and the tower forms a dead zone that is difficult to clean. I hope my views make sense; I welcome everyone’s opinions.
