To spark some discussion, I’ll start by sharing some embarrassing things that have happened to me: 1. When I first started working at the factory, my supervisor told me about the importance of avoiding chain reactions, emphasizing that I must not trigger them, otherwise the equipment would stop working. I thought I could just avoid touching it, so I wandered around the area; I needed to find a store in the chain to see what it looked like, with the intention of avoiding touching it once I was sure of its appearance… 2. The operator told me that the mechanical seal was leaking, so I issued a repair order to the maintenance staff: tighten the mechanical seal to stop the leakage… 3. I went to get some parts with dual thread types. First, I measured them using metric units and made a batch of parts, but they wouldn’t fit. I measured them again and made another batch using imperial units, but still they wouldn’t fit. I thought maybe one end was imperial and the other metric, and indeed… that’s exactly what was the case! ……

During emergency repairs, the balance valve of the hydraulic cylinder used for lifting heavy objects was removed from the site; there was so much oil all over it
The control power supply on the PLC cabinet was turned off, which caused the unit to stop!!! I was terrified at that moment!
I had an even more embarrassing experience: I bought a piece of equipment, installed it on site and tried to get it working, only to find that the pump wasn’t pumping any fluid. Without conducting a thorough analysis, I rushed to have the manufacturer’s technicians come from elsewhere to check it out. Turns out, there was a small blind plate on the flange at the pump’s outlet! ! It’s embarrassing! ~

I have another embarrassing story: a chemical dosing pump wasn’t delivering the required volume of fluid. At the meeting to address this issue, I insisted that the supply and procurement department contact the manufacturer so that they could come to site and check whether there was a problem with the pump’s check valve or diaphragm. When the manufacturer’s representative arrived, he didn’t conduct a thorough inspection; instead, he followed my suggestions and checked the check valve and diaphragm, finding no problems. Yet the pump still didn’t deliver the required volume of fluid. It turned out that the Mobil 630 oil had run out! It’s not possible to force the conveying medium out using hydraulic effects! ! Ugh, later I was mocked by the people from the supply and marketing department as well as the manufacturers. How embarrassing! ! ! ! !
I remember once when I was replacing the bearings of a double-suction centrifugal pump. The rear bearing was installed, and the front bearing as well; after placing the shims in front of and behind the bearings, I found that it was impossible to fit the retaining ring on the front bearing. It turned out that hitting the bearing during installation had pushed the shaft in slightly. Due to personal reasons, I didn’t measure the change in distance between them, which resulted in the front bearing not being installed properly. As a result, one bearing was damaged. It was quite embarrassing at the time, but since then I have developed many good habits, and it was definitely worth it.
When it comes to repair techniques, I have hardly ever failed! But I lack the ability to make decisions!
