Since large blast furnaces remain the main source of molten iron, the demand for high-quality coke within steel complexes will continue to exist in the long term. With the advancement of coke ovens and related technologies, the enlargement of coke ovens has become a trend, manifested in an increase in oven height from 6 meters to 7 meters or even higher, as well as appropriate increases in oven width and length, resulting in a greater volume per chamber. This change is particularly evident in Europe**, especially in Germany, a major steel-producing country. The coke ovens at TKS Schwelgrn, which came online in 2003, have a height of 8.43 meters and a volume of 93 cubic meters; this volume is 2.4 times that of conventional 6-meter coke ovens used domestically. The enlargement of coke ovens is driven, on the one hand, by technological advancements; on the other hand, it is due to the high demands placed on coke quality by blast furnaces. Additionally, increasingly strict environmental regulations regarding heavily polluting industrial equipment such as coke ovens contribute to this trend. Moreover, factors such as labor costs and the service life of coke ovens also facilitate the adoption of larger-volume coke ovens.
