I would like to ask everyone: our company produces a small amount of methanol through distillation, and we are considering implementing measurement systems in order to evaluate the performance of the staff responsible for this process. However, due to the very low flow rate, it is difficult to find a suitable flow meter. I wonder if this is how others carry out such measurements as well. Our flow rate is approximately 300–600 kg/h. It is possible to calculate the liquid level in the finished tank. This also needs to be evaluated; it’s a bit too dark, isn’t it?
You want the instantaneous flow rate of methanol, right? The flow rate of methanol is certainly variable, so it’s not reasonable to calculate it in that way. Since there is a production volume for methanol, isn’t it possible to determine the average flow rate by monitoring the changes in the liquid level in the storage tank?
It can be calculated based on changes in the tank level. However, using this method to assess production seems not very beneficial for management; it can lead to conflicts between teams and also result in defective product quality
What I need is cumulative flow; the level measurement isn’t accurate either, as it’s in constant use. Using the level for individual performance evaluation isn’t scientific: lol
We usually use electronic scales, and they are connected to the DCS to ensure that there are records available for tracking.
Generally, a plate flow meter or gear flow meter controlled by DCS, along with tank measurement (glass tube measurement or remote measurement), is sufficient. If a floor scale + DCs is considered, it can be said to be the best.
That kind of investment only increases the costs further; it’s really a headache
I want to know that too; we don’t even have the original liquid level. The tank used is also vacuum-type; as for how to check the liquid level or how to install it, since the product is corrosive, an enamel-coated tank is used
