I’m not sure how many people from Sichuan work in beer factories; I would like to ask what is generally done with the waste yeast that results from beer fermentation.
1. The yeast sludge generated during beer brewing, if not dealt with promptly and allowed to accumulate, will cause serious pollution. This project uses waste yeast sludge as raw material, and through processes such as biochemical reactions, it produces a yeast extract rich in growth factors such as various amino acids, nucleic acid degradation products, and B-group vitamins. Yeast extract is rich in nutrients and is widely used in biological laboratories, the pharmaceutical industry, the fermentation sector, as well as in medical care and food industries. Key technical specifications: 1. Light yellow, soluble powder ; 2. The dry matter content is around 95% ; 3. Growth-promoting function. It passed the test using specialized test bacteria. II. By using waste yeast sludge from beer production, which can no longer be utilized after several generations of fermentation, as a raw material, and through processes such as biochemical reactions, yeast extract powder rich in amino acids, nucleic acid degradation products, B vitamins, and various growth-promoting factors is prepared. It not only resolves the severe pollution caused by the accumulation of yeast sludge, bringing significant social benefits in terms of environmental management, but also yields notable economic benefits from reusing waste in production. Yeast extract powder is rich in nutrients and is widely used in research fields such as microbiology, zoology, botany, and medicine, as well as in production sectors including bioproducts and various fermentation industries. As a technology provider, this technology is one of the earliest to have been researched in China and has since been transferred for commercial use – it is a mature technology. It passed the ministerial-level appraisal organized by the Chinese Academy of Sciences as early as 1984; the certificate for the appraisal of scientific and technological achievements is No. (84) Kejian Zi 031 issued by the Academy. Since 1985, production workshops have been established in various breweries one after another, yielding significant economic and social benefits; in 1995, it received the Third Prize for Scientific and Technological Progress from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The product quality is comparable to that of similar foreign products. The yeast extract powder produced using this technology is a light yellow, soluble powder with a dry matter content of around 95%, and it possesses a unique growth-promoting effect on microorganisms.
Currently, waste yeast sludge from domestic breweries is generally used for two purposes: it can be dried and used as feed, or it can be used to produce yeast extracts whether dried or not. However, in China, there are no manufacturers that use dried waste beer yeast to produce extracts; instead, wet waste yeast sludge is usually used for this purpose. Due to the scale of breweries, even the largest ones in China produce only one or two thousand tons of wet yeast sludge per year. As a result, the manufacturers that use waste yeast sludge to produce extracts also have a relatively small scale
