I have a simple question: How many temperature measurement points are appropriate to install on sulfur production furnaces and flue gas incineration furnaces? What type of instrument is best suitable for each temperature measurement point? Everyone is welcome to offer guidance!
In principle, two will do, one in front and one behind. Typical incinerators operate under negative pressure, so two thermocouples are sufficient; even if a thermocouple fails, it can be replaced easily. For acid gas combustion furnaces, the reliability of temperature measurement instruments must be taken into account; at least one infrared thermometer should be installed, while high-temperature resistant thermocouples can be used for other purposes.
Our high-temperature thermocouples don’t work well; they usually stop functioning after one or two months. Does anyone have any good thermocouples to recommend? Does the thermocouple come with a cooling fan? Is the installation location far from the flame?
Two sections: two in the combustion section and two in the mixing section, for a total of 4 – truly a double safeguard!
Generally, two thermocouples, one in front and one behind, are sufficient; of course, in theory, the more the better, as more thermocouples can provide a more comprehensive overview of the furnace’s temperature distribution. So it seems that in China there are designs for furnaces equipped with 4 or even more thermocouples. The flow rate of the furnaces designed nowadays is higher than before, so the thermocouples get damaged more quickly. A good solution is to reduce the depth to which the thermocouples are inserted; certainly, the greater the distance from the furnace’s centerline, the higher the accuracy of measurements, but the thermocouples are also more likely to get damaged. Generally, an insertion depth of 5 centimeters away from the furnace wall is sufficient.
