China Chemical Industry Information Center, Document No. [2009] issued by the Information Office of Sinochem: Notice on Convening the “2009 China Methanol Market Development Seminar” To all relevant entities: In recent years, China’s coal chemical industry has experienced rapid development, and the potential for methanol as a fuel has led to a swift increase in both methanol production capacity and output. The current production capacity has reached over 20 million tons per year. There are also about 20 million tons per year in projects that are under construction or planned for construction. In 2008, China’s methanol production was 11.17 million tons, with an operating rate of around 50% ; . At present, some areas in our country are testing the use of methanol gasoline in vehicles and other applications, but the time for widespread use of it has not yet arrived, as there are still many issues that need to be resolved. At the same time, recently there has been a large influx of natural gas methanol from overseas, particularly from the Middle East, into China’s market. In 2008, China imported around 1 million tons of methanol, which had a significant impact on the country’s methanol industry. The use of dimethyl ether as a domestic fuel has already been implemented in the country. After some time of use, there are also some problems. To this end, the China Chemical Information Center will organize the \"2009 China Methanol Market Development Seminar\" in Hangzhou from April 22 to 25, 2009. The conference will bring together companies involved in methanol production, trading, downstream applications, and related industries to discuss the trends in China’s methanol market, with the aim of finding solutions for the excess methanol production capacity in the country. Purpose of the conference: To enhance information exchange and promote the healthy development of China’s methanol industry.
