Our company needs to design hydrogen storage tanks for cold regions; could someone advise us on what design temperature should be used?
Take it in the way that is necessary, taking into account the ambient temperature at the same time.
I guess there’s a approximate temperature in cold places anyway. But I’ve never looked into the conversion between the specified temperature and the maximum/minimum temperatures
For the design of the safety factor, the lowest average monthly temperature in the local area is used.
Safety first; don’t save too much money
The design temperature should take into account both the highest and lowest temperatures; the lowest temperature is determined based on the Code, by using the lowest value of the average monthly minimum temperatures recorded over the years in that area. The monthly average minimum temperature is calculated by adding up the minimum temperatures for each day of the month and then dividing that total by the number of days in the month. Of course, if the equipment has reliable insulation, the impact of low temperatures caused by the environment can be disregarded.
The average of the local monthly minimum temperatures needs to be taken into account. Additionally, the issue of hydrogen corrosion must be considered when selecting materials for the design
