(1) Over the next 5 years, many natural gas projects, particularly those in the Asia-Pacific region, will begin operating one after another. It is predicted that there will be an oversupply of natural gas for 2 to 5 years. (2) Due to the economic downturn in the West, the supply of crude oil worldwide is expected to ease for some time; for example, prices will fluctuate around $50 for 2 to 3 years. (3) Due to the slowdown in the manufacturing sector, demand for petrochemical products (based on ethylene) will inevitably decline. (4) Additionally, ethylene plants in many regions that use C2 and C3 as raw materials will profit from an oversupply of natural gas ； On the contrary, many ethylene plants in our country (using naphtha, or HCGO, or even HVGO as raw materials) will incur losses. Not to mention its impact on China’s coal chemical industry. (5) The fluctuations in the ethylene industry will inevitably affect the usual outlets for the products from the delayed coking units at many refineries in our country. My findings are: (1) it seems necessary to study the hydrocracking of liquid products from delayed coking or their processing via hydrogenation followed by catalytic cracking, and to adjust the ratio of feedstocks for producing combustion engines (including cars) to the ethylene feed. (2) For FCC units, it seems that the route toward producing more propylene or shifting toward the petrochemical sector also needs to be adjusted. Experts are welcome to share their insights!

For oil refining (in the case of catalytic units), the most important thing is to ensure the long-term, full-capacity, and efficient operation of these units, to further increase the yield of light oils, to increase the ratio of diesel to gasoline, and at the same time to make use of dry gas. Natural gas is primarily used for the production of nitrogen fertilizers, followed by the manufacture of methanol, formaldehyde, acetylene, dichloromethane, carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, nitromethane, hydrocyanic acid, and carbon black. It is also used for the extraction of helium. In Xinjiang, natural gas is most commonly utilized for producing nitrogen fertilizers. The large-scale fertilizer production project operated by CNPC’s Tarim Oilfield Petrochemical Branch will be completed soon, with exports being its main purpose; this will undoubtedly have an impact on the fertilizer market in the inland areas. Delayed coking units are to be phased out, as this technology does not fully convert black products into white products. It certainly won’t be a technology that sees significant development in the future, as the dry gas and gasoline/diesel products it produces need further processing before they can be released onto the market, and the processing costs are high. Hydrogenation technology will be the direction of development in the future, and fully hydrogen-based refineries are an inevitable outcome of future environmental requirements.
Pre-hydrogenation + catalysis is currently the best processing route, as it is more environmentally friendly and offers high yields, although the investment required is higher.
I believe that: 1. To become stronger and larger, it is necessary to have a stable source of raw materials; 2. Advanced technologies and equipment should be adopted, and investment in them is essential; 3. One should not focus solely on oil refining, but rather move towards the chemical industry
