The right method is half the battle; it is also very important to find an appropriate approach when training listening skills. Here are several effective listening training methods, suitable for students at different levels; I hope they will be useful to everyone. I. Powerful Improvement Method A: First, listen to a passage (difficult or fairly difficult, 100–200 words), then stop and think about its general meaning. B: Listen again and write down each sentence. C: Final check once more. This method is suitable for those with a hearing level of medium or above. The period considered is one month, with sessions held once a day for one hour each time. II. Repeated practice method: For a passage (of moderate or difficult difficulty, around 100 words), listen to it in insulting tones six times; after each listening session, think about the parts that were not understood. If you still don’t understand something after five or six attempts, you can look up the relevant written material and then memorize it. This method is suitable for speakers with moderate listening skills who wish to expand their listening vocabulary and *language skills. III. Reverse training method: Find a piece of written material (of moderate to difficult difficulty, 100–200 words), read it carefully by yourself first to understand the new words and expressions, and then listen to the tape. This method is suitable for those with average hearing skills who need to improve it urgently. IV. Question-guided training method: Before listening, take a look at the questions first and listen with them in mind; 1–2 listens are sufficient, and after each listen, think about the answers to the questions. This method is beneficial for exam preparation training. V. Phased training method: Select English broadcasts from several radio stations, such as CRI and VOA. Each broadcast is played from easy to difficult for 10 days. This method is helpful for getting familiar with English and intonation. It can be used as a long-term training method. VI. Selection Training Method: Select 10 to 20 short passages and 10 dialogues, covering topics such as technology and current affairs. First, read it aloud using the standard pronunciation until you can memorize it. Then listen to the tape again. This method is beneficial for those with moderately low hearing skills to improve in a short period of time. VII. Special training methods for phrases and expressions: First, memorize about 20 phrases or expressions, then find textual materials that contain them; when listening, pay attention to the pronunciation and liaison of these phrases and expressions. VIII. Repetitive practice method: Keep practicing listening exercises for a month, with 50 questions of each type being an appropriate amount. After finishing, review the materials and check the answers. This method is helpful for improving problem-solving skills.
