While looking for information on MBR recently, I discovered that there are two types of hollow fiber membranes: one is noodle-shaped, and the other is flat. The information provided in Mitsubishi’s samples states that flat membranes have a flux several times higher than that of noodle-shaped membranes, and their pumping time is also longer; it is also specified that flat membranes are suitable for large-scale water treatment. However, there are also manufacturers that explicitly use flat membranes for treating wastewater in buildings. Is there a more detailed comparison of the use of these two types of membranes? Compare the advantages and disadvantages of flat plates and medium-fiber types: Advantages: Flat plates: higher flux; The membrane surface is smooth, with strong resistance to fouling. . . Medium fiber: It occupies less space and has a high bulk density. Disadvantages: Tablets: they take up a lot of space, especially in large-scale projects, and this weakness is quite evident. Medium fiber: Severe local sludge accumulation, with poor resistance to clogging. The strength of the membrane filaments has certain limitations, making them prone to breaking. Personally, I think a comparison between throughput and land occupation is necessary. For large-scale projects, although flat panels have a high flux, it’s not extremely high; on the contrary, their disadvantage in terms of space occupancy is quite noticeable.
