Zinc market: Uncertainty in 2009 – Uncertainty will be the main characteristic of the zinc market in 2009, driven by three main factors: uncertainty regarding economic and consumption prospects, uncertainty in production conditions, and policy uncertainties. In 2009, amid a severe slowdown in the global economy, demand for zinc showed no sign of improvement.
Transitional mining, transitional production, weak consumption
Zhuzhou Smelting’s Zn production has dropped significantly; it seems the Zn market will need to calm down for a while
Zhuzhi is constructing a zinc smelting plant with a capacity of 100,000 tons in Kyiv Set, which is set to come online in 10 years. Jiangxi Copper also has a 100,000-ton zinc plant, located in Jiujiang. It will go into production in 10 years as well.

Zinc smelters across the country have already reduced production; this year is not going well.
The Danxia Smelting Plant of CICC Lingnan has a wet zinc smelting project with a capacity of 50 Wt/a; this year, only 10 Wt/a of that capacity will be put into use, with operation starting around June 30th this year
