Let’s discuss the use of pressure swing adsorption for carbon removal, whether it is necessary to desulfurize the reformate gas, and whether hydrogen sulfide will have an impact on the pressure swing adsorption agents.
The shifted gas needs to be desulfurized; failing to do so will affect the adsorbent used in the shift process
If the shifted gas is not desulfurized, the resulting CO2 gas will contain large amounts of H2S. As a result, precise desulfurization cannot be achieved during the urea production process, and this can lead to equipment corrosion in the synthesis tower. The nitrogen and hydrogen gases sent to ammonia synthesis will also contain hydrogen sulfide, causing catalyst poisoning.
Desulfurization must be carried out before transformation decarburization; otherwise, it will affect the activity of the adsorbent, leading to additional adsorption processes and energy waste
4A molecular sieve adsorbs water, methanol, ethanol, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, ethylene, and propylene; it does not adsorb any molecules with a diameter larger than that of 4A (including propane), and its selective adsorption capacity for water is higher than that for any other molecule. Since 4A molecular sieve can absorb H2S, it should have no effect on 4A! The key also lies in what molecular sieve you choose!
