What impact will the addition of ammonia to circulating water have on water quality?

We have encountered such a situation here: the staff working with the circulating water could smell ammonia in the circulation tank, and upon analyzing the pH level, it was found to be very high
An increase in pH leads to an increase in algae in the system, and in severe cases it can cause scaling in the system.

Local ammonia leakage can, over time, cause the pH of the circulating water to rise, leading to increased microbial growth and water turbidity. This facilitates corrosion of the circulating water equipment used throughout the plant, resulting in an increase in metal ions in the water. Such conditions cause scaling in heat exchangers, reduce their efficiency, increase energy consumption, and thus raise costs.
