Recently, there has been a project related to coal chemical engineering. However, there are many methods for gasifying coal; I’ve seen in the literature that there are two types of furnaces, BGL and Lugri, but I’m not sure what the differences between them are. What types of coal are suitable, and how do the components of the syngas vary after gasification? Thank you

BGL is Lurgi’s liquid slagging technology, while Lugri refers to solid slagging; the coal types suitable for both are essentially the same. Compared to Lugri, BGL results in lower levels of carbon dioxide, methane, and hydrogen in the dry gas produced after gasification, with an increase in carbon monoxide: 4% carbon dioxide, 56% carbon monoxide, 28% hydrogen, 3% nitrogen, 7% methane, and 2% other gases. 2. Requirements for coal quality in Lurgi furnaces: Particle size: 0–50 mm, with 0–5 mm accounting for <25%. Ash content: <25%. Moisture content: <30%. Ash fusion point: F3 < 1500°C. Thermal stability: All types of coal except lignite and peat are suitable. There are no specific requirements regarding sulfur content and volatile matter. 3. Pollution by waste gases, liquids, and solids: Large amounts of harmful substances such as cyanides and phenols are present in gas; after being absorbed by water, the resulting wastewater is treated biologically before being discharged.
Are there any requirements for the coal used by BGL? ? For example, can bituminous coal be used? ? ? ?
Since it is a fixed-bed gasification process, the thermal stability of coal should be as high as possible; otherwise, it will affect the load on the gasifier and increase the amount of waste that needs to be removed
BGL is an improved version of the Lurgi process; it uses liquid slag removal, and the particle size of the coal used is roughly the same as that in the Lurgi process. In terms of water treatment, BGL is superior to the Lurgi process
