Qilu Completes 60-Ton Per Year Dimethyl Ether Pilot Test February 26, 2009 Source: China Chemical Industry Network According to a report from Business News on February 26, Qilu Petrochemical has recently completed a pilot test for the production of dimethyl ether using catalytic distillation at a rate of 60 tons per year, and all technical parameters of the facility meet the design requirements. This marks a major breakthrough in the new dimethyl ether technology independently developed by the Qilu Petrochemical Research Institute. 　　The catalytic distillation technology for dimethyl ether production developed by the Qilu Petrochemical Research Institute features low reaction temperature, high conversion rate, good selectivity, low energy consumption, and a simple process. This technology avoids the pollution and corrosion associated with the liquid-phase method, and overcomes the high production costs of the gas-phase method, thus possessing strong overall competitiveness. Pilot plant test results show that the one-pass conversion rate of methanol is greater than 99%, and the purity of dimethyl ether is higher than 99.9%.
