I saw a document introducing Yokogawa flowmeters; it is shown below. Is the so-called vortex flowmeter the same as a vortex street flowmeter? I think it’s just a matter of different names. Also, what types of media are suitable for vortex flowmeters? Measurement principle: A vortex generator is placed in the fluid, and Karman vortices are generated alternately downstream of the vortex generator. The Kármán vortex detects the frequency of the vortex through 2 piezoelectric elements located at the upper part of the vortex generator. The vortex frequency is proportional to the flow velocity within a fixed range of Reynolds numbers; therefore, by measuring the vortex frequency, it is possible to determine the flow velocity as well as the flow rate. Features of vortex flowmeters: · Simple installation, with flange and clamp connection options. ·There is no need to adjust the zero point. ·It boasts superior reliability and stability due to the absence of moving parts. ·The detection section has a simple structure with only a vortex generator. Low pressure loss, no leakage points, and high safety performance. ·The robust sensor design enables the measurement of high-temperature (up to 450°C) and high-pressure fluids. Standard type (DY***): ◆ No need to install a reducer/converger or necessary short pipes. Reduce installation costs and improve safety! ◆ Increase space for instrument installation. ◆ Improved stability in low-flow areas! One device enables stable measurements over a wide range, reducing installation costs! Cost advantage – Reduced-diameter models (DY***/R1, /R2). New installation proposals for reduced-diameter models. Old installation method · Safety of the integrated design: Same as the standard model, with no leakage points. The connection part only has the two ends of the detected part. · The pitch of the detection section is standardized to the same size as the standard model, making replacement simpler.
Vortex flowmeters are not the same as vortex street flowmeters. The media suitable for use with vortex street flowmeters are similar to those suitable for vortex flowmeters; however, vortex flowmeters do not have the same high level of accuracy
