What are air coolers and evaporative air coolers?
There is no relevant material to consult; it’s just a casual remark. A heat exchanger that uses air from the surrounding environment to cool the heat medium to room temperature is called an air cooler. An evaporative air cooler relies on the latent heat of vaporization of water (the heat released when water turns into vapor) to remove heat, with air serving as the medium through which the heat medium’s temperature is reduced. Advantages of air cooling: air is free, and finned tubes are commonly used in such systems, reducing the likelihood of scaling on the fins. Characteristics of evaporative cooling: it relies on its own circulation for heat exchange, requiring only a small amount of soft water – though water is still needed.
An air cooler uses air (a fan) to cool the materials that need to be cooled; it employs finned tubes for this purpose. Evaporative cooling, on the other hand, uses both air (a fan) and spray water to cool the materials that need to be cooled, and it makes use of plain tubes for this purpose. Due to the spray water, the temperature drops a bit lower than that of an air cooler.
What is said on the second floor is more appropriate. From the perspective of heat exchange principles, an air cooler utilizes the temperature rise of air at low temperatures (where low temperature is relative to the temperature of the medium being cooled or condensed) to cool/condense the temperature of the medium inside the tubes, whereas an evaporative air cooler relies on the heat absorption due to water evaporation and the temperature rise of air for heat exchange. The two are completely different in terms of heat exchange principles
What are air coolers and evaporative air coolers? There’s no such term; there are things like air-cooled towers, evaporators, condensers, or towers, but in basic chemical engineering I’ve never seen this kind of naming. Did the poster simplify the name?
