If a steel plate is to be used to create a blind flange but its thickness is insufficient, what kind of reinforcement design should be employed?
The details are as follows: we want to use a 75 mm thick A355 JA50 steel plate to manufacture a 36\" 600# blind flange. Since the thickness of this plate is less than what is required, reinforcement is necessary. Please suggest some structures for reinforcing the blind flange. Thank you very much.

However, according to ASME B16.47, the thickness of standard blind flanges is over 100 mm. So the question is: how can we create a blind flange with a thickness greater than 100 mm using 75 mm thick plates? Thank you.

Using SW-6, it is possible to treat the flange blind plate as a flat cover head of a container; however, this flat cover head must be one that has been reinforced. For designing these reinforcement ribs, reference can be made to JB4735, section 8.3 on the design of flat cover ribs. Note that there is also a ring of ribs surrounding these reinforcement ribs. Therefore, I suggest that the person in question purchase thick steel plates and remake the blind plate – forgings can be used for the blind plate to improve its strength

It is best to use flange covers with sufficient pressure rating, or to manufacture custom flanges based on the required pressure rating
It’s very simple: weld vertical ribs onto the blind plate, and the design can be adjusted according to the pressure level; possible shapes include “10”, “#”, etc
