Use of device sealing oil

Machine pumps in the high-temperature sections of atmospheric and vacuum distillation units generally require seal oil, but based on the usage practices in some plants, no such oil is actually used, rendering these systems ineffective. Is it necessary? The cooling water of the pump itself serves the purpose of cooling, and some pumps are equipped with their own small flushing facilities.

Using seal oil is better than not using it; feedstock processed at atmospheric pressure is preferable, unlike in the case of catalytic slurry pumps, which is why seal oil is generally not used in atmospheric-pressure plants.
Given the design, I think it’s better to use it, as the sealing oil serves functions such as cooling, sealing, and flushing, which are very beneficial for the long-term operation of pumps.
As for the specific use of seal oil, it depends on the type of pump; generally, pumps used for transporting high-temperature, toxic, or leak-prone fluids should use seal oil.
