Installation of the pump outlet flow meter

Hello everyone! I’m facing a problem now and would appreciate some advice from all of you experts: Some time ago I created a diagram related to the flow meter at the pump outlet. My boss said that installing a flow meter at the pump outlet can lead to premature damage to it, but since it’s a safety requirement, we need to have such a flow meter – there’s no way around it ； How should it be set up? Install it on the horizontal pipe 3-5 meters before the pump inlet! The pump outlet installation is not good.
The installation of flow meters generally follows the \"10 before and 5 after\" principle, that is, the lengths of the straight pipe sections before and after the flow meter should be 10 times and 5 times the diameter of the pipe respectively, so as to enable the flow meter to obtain a more stable flow signal. Installing a flow meter directly at the pump outlet clearly does not conform to this principle. Furthermore, with positive displacement pumps such as rotary pumps or diaphragm pumps, the flow pulses are very severe, which is detrimental to flow meters.
