I just read an article on the pipeline transportation of water-coal slurry on the Coal Network; it was really good, so I’d like to recommend it to everyone. As is well known, with the shortage and rising prices of international crude oil, China’s coal chemical industry has seen rapid development in recent years. However, China’s coal-producing areas are mainly concentrated in Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Ningxia, Xinjiang, and other regions, which face objective challenges such as water scarcity, fragile ecosystems, a lack of human resources and technology, and insufficient railway capacity. The concentrated development of projects, while leading to increased economic benefits, also exacerbates the impact on the living environment. The development and maturity of slurry pipeline transportation technology will provide more options for project construction and accelerate the growth of the coal chemical industry ; At the same time, the owners also save on investments in processes such as coal transportation, coal storage, and pulp production. Both the transportation and conversion of coal are positive things. Slurry pipeline transportation technology is being researched and developed both domestically and internationally, with the transmission distance and reliability continuously improving. The text also mentions some typical transportation projects for reference. Copying and pasting isn’t working, so here’s a link for everyone; those who need it can go and read it. http://www.ccpua.com/NewInfoContent_120963.htm
Shaanxi Coal Industry Group also has plans to use slurry pipeline transportation to address the issue of transporting coal from Yulin in northern Shaanxi, while simultaneously supplying raw materials to several factories that are under construction or already in operation in the Guanzhong region, such as the Shaanxi Chemical, Xinghua, Weihua, and Dongchen projects.
The School of Thermal Energy and Environment at Southeast University has also conducted research on the pipeline transportation of water-coal slurry, and has achieved results in calculating the pipeline resistance associated with this substance; you can consult the relevant professors for more information!
May I ask what the temperature control is during transportation?
Research on the long-distance transportation of water-coal slurry has a history of over 10 years. Around 1990, in China, there was a surge in the conversion of many industrial furnaces to use water-coal slurry as fuel, and at that time, the preparation of water-coal slurry as well as its long-distance transportation were key areas of research. It has faded over the past few years. However, Sichuan completed an iron ore slurry pipeline transportation project last year, which operates on a similar principle. The advantage is that it solves the difficulties in transporting ore materials, enabling low-cost mining, transportation, and processing of minerals in remote areas, as well as efficient utilization of resource advantages.
Slurry pipeline transportation can be regarded as a part of hydraulic transportation of slurries, and it seems to be gaining attention again nowadays. Its transportation principle is similar to that of slurry transportation of iron ore. Many years ago in China, there were demonstration projects on long-distance pipeline transportation of coal slurries; it’s not clear what the status of those projects is now. But there is no doubt that slurry pipeline transportation can significantly reduce the costs associated with loading and unloading raw materials, lower transportation expenses, and address environmental issues in the processes of production, transportation, and application. Depending on the distance, different solutions are available.
The Wuhan Design Institute of China National Coal Technology and Engineering Group seems to be working on this area, and there are many articles on the internet that can be read on this topic
I’m very much looking forward to the water-coal slurry pipeline from northern Shaanxi to Guanzhong
The construction of the Shenwei pipeline for coal transport has already begun; it’s very innovative, and this project serves as a great model. If successful, coal transportation will have an excellent additional channel.
Where is the Dongchen project of Shaanxi Coal Industry Group?
