On February 26, the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction project of a methanol production line with an annual capacity of 100,000 tons, aimed at the comprehensive utilization of coke oven gas from Qinggang Yanzhou Coking Plant, was held in Yanzhou. The Qinggang Yanzhou Coking Plant originally had 19,000 cubic meters of coke oven gas per hour left over, after it was used for heating the coke ovens, thermal power boilers, and urban residents. To make full use of this excess gas, reduce environmental pollution, and increase the plant’s profitability, Yanzhou Coking Plant has launched a new project to produce 100,000 tons of methanol; the completion of this project is expected to take 18 months. The 100,000-ton methanol production project, with an investment of 300 million yuan, is a key project and an energy comprehensive utilization initiative for Qingdao Iron and Steel Yanzhou Coking Plant to achieve its energy conservation and emission reduction goals. It utilizes advanced domestic processes for converting coking plant gas into methanol, thereby helping to transform the industrial structure. This project has been approved by the Qingdao State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and registered with the Shandong Provincial Economic and Trade Commission. It was designed by Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd. and passed expert review, At the same time it also received financial support of 10 million yuan from the central government’s budget. The total investment for the project is 300 million yuan, with a construction period of 18 months. Once completed and put into operation, it will generate annual sales revenue of 179.07 million yuan and profits and taxes of 89 million yuan. It is understood that the vast majority of methanol production facilities around the world use natural gas or oil as raw materials. However, the coking plant of Qinggang Yanzhou produces methanol from coke oven gas; this not only simplifies the production process but also enables the coking plant to improve its environmental performance, develop a circular economy, and pursue sustainable development.
