It is generally believed that those who study automation work with instruments; but what about other specialties? Is it easier to get started with instruments in those fields?
There is a major in instrumentation; it’s best to study this major, as instrumentation is a highly specialized field
The process control field should work too; in my opinion, those who study instrumentation should understand processes. If they are familiar with processes, they will have a deeper understanding of instrument control and be able to grasp control systems from a macro perspective.
Those who study instrumentation tend to focus on conventional instruments, those who study automatic control focus on automatic control systems, and those who study computer science focus on programming. No matter what field one studies, further advancement requires practical experience
Those studying thermal engineering should also be able to get familiar with instruments quickly
I switched from electrical engineering to instrumentation; I think it’s still necessary to specialize in this field myself
Automation of chemical processes is what is known as the instrumentation field
It depends on whether you’re willing to put in the effort. You can learn anything; it’s best to have some knowledge of English.
It’s easy to get started with electrical engineering; the principles behind instrument measurements are quite simple. PID control as well as more complex control methods (such as cascade, proportional-integral-derivative, feedforward, etc.) are also easy to understand. Especially PLC programming – ladder diagrams are designed specifically for those in the electrical field, and they are similar to reading electrical schematics
Those who have studied electrical automation or process control find it easier to switch to instrumentation.
Students majoring in automation, measurement and control, numerical control, or chemical instrumentation can all work with instruments
If you are in a chemical plant or refinery, study chemical process instrumentation and automation. Looking at PLC programs, ladder diagrams are also very easy
Instruments can’t be generalized; it depends on which aspect of the instrument you are focusing on, as different priorities may lead to faster mastery in different areas.
It’s of course good to have learned it; aside from specialized fields, I believe that operators involved in production processes can quickly get started in dealing with issues related to instruments at the production site after two or three years of training.
Those who have studied control should find it relatively easy to get started.
Those who study applied electronics technology learn quickly too; I’m one of them.
