For the new equipment installed in our company, some large-diameter cut-off valves require an air storage tank, while some pneumatic cut-off valves do not have this requirement. Are there any relevant standards or specifications regarding this? At the same time, gas storage tanks are considered small pressure vessels; what should we pay attention to when purchasing them?
For two-cylinder cut-off valves, when an air supply failure occurs and it is necessary for the valve to remain open or closed, an air storage tank is required; such tanks are usually supplied by the manufacturers of control valves.
Large-diameter cylinders are basically double-acting ones. For valves that are crucial for the manufacturing process or related to safety, it is necessary to install air storage tanks so that they can maintain a certain state or continue to perform specific actions in the event of a power failure or an emergency shutdown
In addition to the consideration mentioned by the two people upstairs regarding achieving a safe state in case of a gas supply failure, some important safety valves are equipped with air storage tanks; these tanks allow the safety valves to have enough gas for several operations in case of a gas supply interruption (which might be necessary). When the pressure in the gas pipeline drops below the set level, the valve returns to its safe position. According to regulations, gas storage tanks are generally considered pressure vessels (the relevant standards specify exact dimensions and pressure requirements); they must be manufactured in accordance with the rules for pressure vessels, and a complete set of documentation is required.

The shut-off valves used in our plant for gas storage tanks are those required by process safety standards to enable rapid shutdown, as failure to do so could lead to safety accidents; examples include the shut-off valve for the main boiler gas pipeline and the anti-surge valve for fans.
