The internal floating disk is an accessory of the storage tank, not an instrumentation device. Tanks with internal floating disks are commonly used to hold volatile liquids in order to reduce vapor loss. To measure the liquid level, sometimes instrument accessories (such as floats) can be fixed to the inner floating disk and move up and down along with the guide wire. If a waveguide is not installed when mounting a radar level gauge, it measures the level up to the inner float.
