For a recent project, a BOWANG zirconia-based furnace was purchased to measure the oxygen content during aluminum calcination. The system has been in operation for two weeks now, but it continues to show excessively high values – the normal range is 3–4%, yet the reading is above 17%. The table was verified twice, and there were no issues with the table; however, the measurement problem persists. Later, two more identical Bowang new watches were installed, but there was still no improvement at all. Yesterday the situation escalated, and senior management got involved directly; they replaced the zirconia components from other locations with those from Yokogawa, and everything is now normal – the readings are stable, ranging only between 3 and 4. Since it was my suggestion to choose this zirconia material, and all the parameters were specified in detail, in reality it didn’t function properly even for a single day! Later, another workshop that deals with maintenance instruments raised an issue: the dial design of the Bowang zirconia instruments is too thin. In a negative-pressure environment such as that found in baking ovens, the tighter the bolts securing the zirconia element to the dial, the more severe the deformation of the dial becomes, which allows outside air to enter the pipes and results in continuously high measurement values—even when shims are used! They have studied this issue many times and proven that Bowang’s watch cannot be used in such an environment! So I’d like to ask everyone how they are handling these follow-up matters now. Since it’s a new table in the project, it certainly can’t be simply invalidated; that would mean a serious mistake in the design! It’s certain that it will be criticized; the question is how to prove that it’s a problem with the Bowang watch, rather than an issue with the watch’s main functions. It’s a problem with the accessories or the installation, which makes it easier to explain everything from various perspectives… Please give me some advice! Thank you!

I have a suggestion for you: demonstrate outside the manufacturer’s factory with your equipment, and someone will help you resolve the issue right away.
Just buy more gaskets to insert in between at Bowang, and then it can be used, right? . . . . . . . . . .

Reply to 1# zhangjx_hc LZ: I’m also working on an alumina project. Here, we’ve always used Yokogawa devices for measuring oxygen content. Based on what you’ve said about that manufacturer’s products, it’s clear that neither the probes nor the microprocessors can be used in baking furnaces. You should prepare a quality feedback report and ask your company’s procurement department to avoid making any payments for those devices. Alternatively, you can contact the sales manager of that company directly to get other devices of equal value. A large number of measurement devices are needed for alumina processing, so other products can be used instead

The conventional models of Yokogawa’s zirconia cost a little over 30,000 yuan each, yet the original poster chose an unwell-known domestic brand; the doubts expressed by the second poster are justified. There are many factors that affect the product quality of zirconia, as well as abnormal conditions caused by on-site installation. Additionally, many of the instrument designs are fine, but there must be issues with manufacturing.
I think the new watch hasn’t worked properly even for a single day; there might be issues with improper operation or incorrect installation. Perhaps it’s time to start looking for the reasons again: I have previously maintained zirconia products from various brands, such as Yokogawa, Ametek, ABB, Fuji, and silicate-based products. It seems that the main differences between imported and domestic products lie in the amount of maintenance required and their lifespan. The technology behind zirconia is already highly mature, and domestically produced versions can also be used (except for some special applications). Is your zirconia suction-type or direct-insertion type? If the measured content shows normal values, it indicates that there is nothing wrong with the instrument; the focus should be on external factors. If the oxygen level indicated is close to that of air, it is recommended to check the following aspects: 1. Is there any leakage at the flanges? 2. Is the calibration gas port blocked? 3.
