What type of pressure gauge should be used for heat transfer oil? Our factory uses ordinary pressure gauges used for measuring water or air pressure, with an accuracy class of 1.6. However, our subcontractor claims that a special pressure gauge designed for heat transfer oil is necessary, stating that heat transfer oil operates at 250 degrees Celsius, and therefore it’s different from the ordinary pressure gauges used in pressure vessels for applying hydraulic pressure. Let’s make a bold guess: in order to prevent asphalt from condensing and blocking the pressure transduction tube, the pressure transduction tube and the pressure gauge form a sealed chamber; the inside of the pressure transduction tube is filled with pressure-transmitting oil, and there is a diaphragm at its base that transfers the pressure of the medium. Since the medium does not come into contact with the pressure transduction tube, no blockage occurs. :lol
There are no special requirements for the pressure gauge used for heat transfer oil; it only needs to be able to withstand the required temperature and pressure. We use ordinary pressure gauges, which have been in use for almost 10 years without any problems.
I disagree; it’s not good to use heat transfer oil in asphalt. Do any other experts have any opinions? What type of pressure gauge should be used for asphalt?
I didn’t understand what the original poster meant. For heat transfer oil, a regular pressure gauge is sufficient, while for asphalt, a diaphragm pressure gauge should be used. How are heat transfer oil and asphalt connected together?
From a safety perspective, it is best to use pressure gauges of high quality. In addition, a welded connection should be used between the pressure gauge and its connectors, which helps to prevent fires caused by the leakage of hot oil. On hot oil transmission pipelines, bellows globe valves are generally used, with weld connections, again to prevent the leakage of the medium
Isn’t this question quite simple? Both ordinary pressure gauges and diaphragm pressure gauges can be used for heat transfer oil. As for asphalt, only diaphragm pressure gauges can be used, and heat tracing must be adequate. As long as this is done, there will be no problem. As for temperature, it has little impact on pressure gauges.
Diaphragm pressure gauges should be used, as heat transfer oil has a high temperature and high viscosity; if a gauge that is not of the diaphragm type is used, the tubing can easily stick together, leading to damage or loss of sensitivity.
It should be noted that the viscosity of heat transfer oil is very low, much lower than that of water; therefore, there is no need to use diaphragm pressure gauges. The key is to ensure that the heat transfer oil does not leak and cause a fire
