Hello, in our plant’s coking system, the ammonia vapor was originally designed to be cooled in an ammonia condenser to produce an ammonia solution with a concentration of 15–20%, which would then be fed into the sulfur recovery system (where ammonia is used as a base to absorb hydrogen sulfide). Now, some people suggest that the ammonia vapor should be sent directly back into the gas pipeline before desulfurization. This is my first time dealing with coking processes, and I think this approach is not appropriate. First, ammonia vapor exists in the form of mist; although it is possible to absorb some of this vapor in the desulfurization tower, I believe the absorption efficiency will be low. Some factories do this as well; I think the low ammonia content in the final gas is due to ammonia being absorbed by sulfuric acid in the subsequent ammonium sulfate production process. 2. The excessive amount of water carried along by the ammonia vapor disrupts the water balance, resulting in a large amount of waste liquid ; 3. The direct introduction of ammonia vapor into the gas pipeline increases the thermal load and also enhances the corrosivity to the pipeline. I’m not sure if my thinking is correct; I hope experienced colleagues can give me some guidance.
Personally, I think it’s still fine; it can be used for high-temperature separation and then sent into the pipeline where it can be absorbed by the subsequent processing stages
If the ammonia level is high, it can be sent to the various ammonium carbonate production units; however, costs need to be taken into consideration. If the level is low, the burner temperature can be controlled at over 1250 degrees at the sulfur recovery stage to facilitate direct decomposition
