The methanol pumps in the cold zone are equipped with methanol seal tanks, which serve two purposes: 1: to provide cooling for the mechanical seals. It is possible to monitor internal leakage and the amount of leakage. 2: Reduces the effect of freezing point of condensate water at the mechanical seal area
Only the pumps in the cold areas are equipped with seal tanks. As the name suggests, these tanks serve a sealing purpose, helping to reduce leakage from the mechanical seals. Methanol is harmful to humans, which is why those areas have clean water pipelines for washing the eyes. By lowering the temperature of the low-temperature methanol, the moisture in the condensate water at the mechanical seal is condensed into ice, which protects the surface and reduces the leakage of methanol from the mechanical seal
Sealed tanks aren’t only available in cold zones, right! Heat pumps also have sealed tanks, whose function is to cool, seal, and lubricate the mechanical seals. And there are also an inner seal and an outer seal.
Sealed tanks primarily serve to provide sealing and cooling for mechanical seals; however, there are also those that are airtight – for example, the pumps used in the low-temperature methanol washing process in Unit 1 of Wushi Petrochemical use nitrogen for sealing
As far as I know, it serves to seal, cool, and lubricate the mechanical seal. Some sealed tanks have a structure similar to that of heat exchangers, and can be connected to cooling water to cool methanol.
