Reasons for the shrinkage of the gasket at the bottom of the coke tower

The gasket for the bottom cover of the coke tower is a wave-toothed composite gasket (made of 304 material), and it shrinks during use; I’m not sure as to the reason. I hope those with more experience can help solve this issue. Thank you
Why not try octagonal steel shims? They work well.
Switch to octagonal steel shims; we’ve been using them and the results are good, with no shrinkage occurring

Octagonal steel gaskets have been used all along. These gaskets are employed in environments with high temperatures and pressures; since the bottom cover of the coke tower is subject to intermittent heating, ordinary gaskets would deform
Caused by intermittent heating and deformation. It is recommended to use octagonal steel shims.
It’s now impossible to replace the flange; is there any other solution?
Octagonal gaskets are less prone to shrinking, but after being disassembled, the upper and lower surfaces must be cleaned thoroughly; otherwise, leaks are likely to occur during preheating and reassembly
