During the startup of the synthesis tower, should the steam from the startup injector be used when there is water in the tower or when there is no water in it? For towers with catalyst packed in the shell side?
Actually, either one will work; when the temperature inside the tower is high, before increasing the temperature, there is water in the drum, so it’s common to start operations when there is water present
A steam injector is actually a steam atomizer, whose function is to atomize steam and add it to water in order to raise the water’s temperature. Therefore, for operation to begin, there must be water inside the tower, and the drum must have a liquid level established. Relying solely on steam for heating requires a large amount of steam, and the temperature is difficult to control.
Heating can begin when there is half water present, because adding water while there is liquid level in the drum causes significant vibration in the synthesis tower; moreover, when the liquid level is high, it is necessary to remove waste through the synthesis drain. Adding a small amount of water results in less vibration in the synthesis tower, and it also saves a significant amount of steam.
It’s generally better to use water for heating, as this makes it easier to control the temperature
