Existing reports indicate that Daqing Petrochemical has achieved domestic production of high-pressure dry gas seals capable of withstanding pressures above 40 MPa; are there other companies in China that also possess the technology to do this? Dry gas seals are currently widely used in the shaft sealing of high-speed centrifugal compressors. With the increasing maturity of dry gas seal technology, the operating pressure at which these seals are used in centrifugal compressors can now reach 43 MPa. However, the market for such products is almost entirely dominated by companies like FLOWSERVE and JOHN•CRANE, while the use of domestic proprietary technologies remains virtually non-existent in this field
I also saw this news online; it is said to have been done by a company in Chengdu. High-pressure dry gas seals are essentially monopolized by FLOWSERVE and JOHN•CRANE; it’s great news that domestic manufacturers can now produce them.
In China, a capacity of around 150 kilograms can only be achieved; equipment with higher capacities is still relatively rare in the country, and the market for such equipment is very limited. In Sichuan, Chinese companies have managed to achieve a capacity of around 150 kilograms. The development of high-pressure dry gas seals is constrained by various factors: first, the materials required are imported, but special materials are difficult to obtain, and there is a shortage of them as well. Secondly, experimental and testing methods need to be improved. Most importantly, there should be opportunities for industrial application; Daqing developed this together with Yitong, which reduces the risks associated with industrial use. Have other companies, after developing similar products, not found any entities willing to adopt them? So it might be the influence of the broader environment, rather than just a technical issue. The length of seals is generally not large; if one were to study this topic in isolation, it would require significant investment. Even after development, it is unlikely that such seals will be used in actual industrial applications in China. Sichuan Nikki has still managed to develop many domestically produced high-pressure dry gas seals for use in applications such as diesel hydrogenation and fertilizer synthesis.
