I have a question and would appreciate your advice: When preparing the construction drawings, since the client has purchased imported equipment, the way flow diagrams (PID) are presented in the foreign design documents differs from those used in China, and it’s quite complex. We need to create construction drawings for the client. When creating construction drawings, do we need to convert the flowcharts into our own style of representation?

Abroad, the process packages and basic design are provided, while the detailed design is carried out domestically. Matters such as these, as well as requirements like the design basis, design standards, units of measurement, etc., are generally agreed upon during the process kick-off meetings and design coordination meetings. Under normal circumstances, it is allowed to convert the PID diagram, but it must undergo review and confirmation by the foreign party.
The PID from the preliminary design generally cannot meet the requirements of the detailed design; therefore, it is necessary to refine the PID during the detailed design phase, that is, to develop an initial version of the PID for the detailed design. As for whether conversion is necessary, based on my experience, if conversion is carried out, the workload will be extremely large, and the amount of work required for review will also be substantial. Therefore, the usual approach is to simply improve upon the existing PID design rather than carrying out a conversion. For reference.
