The 1 million-ton polyvinyl chloride project at Beiyuan Chemical in Shenmu, Shaanxi is currently under construction, with civil engineering work in progress. The first phase with a capacity of 500,000 tons is expected to be completed by the end of this year; it will go into operation. The second phase, also with a capacity of 500,000 tons, will be completed in 2010. Who is more familiar with its manufacturing process? What’s the status of those two 50,000-ton units working together? Is that friend clear? They also have their own power plants, cement factories, and salt pans. In comparison, let’s see what the technical and economic aspects will be like; their 100,000-ton facility was shut down last year and is likely to resume operations soon.
No detailed design has been carried out yet, so it’s impossible to start production this year.
There is a highly experienced expert at Tianjin Chemical Plant; he is a veteran specialist who is in charge of the polymerization workshop. He has worked on all kinds of processes in the past. Currently, acetylene is produced from calcium carbide
Yes, it’s really interesting to know what manufacturing process they use. With the PVC market in such a poor state this year, to undertake such a large project right away – do they see good prospects for the market in the future?
With more infrastructure projects coming online in the second half of the year, demand from downstream sectors for PVC is likely to increase~
With the PVC market in such a poor state this year, to launch such a large-scale project all at once – that’s quite ambitious.
Move forward against the odds – with vision and courage
Hanwha is also installing PVC, 300,000 tons, completion tomorrow
At present, the scale of PVC production facilities in China is already severely overcapacity; building more facilities of such a large scale will only lead to fierce competition, won’t it? Where are its conditions for survival? The price of PVC is only this much, and the raw material calcium carbide cannot see its price drop due to the fixed electricity costs; so how can one expect the price of PVC to rise significantly? The era of huge profits for PVC is long over; an era of meager profits is still to come, and currently it is a time of losses!
Did you drive? The old factory should be in operation by now, while the new factory might not be ready until the second half of the year
No frills – there’s an overwhelming surplus of PVC already
Everything is implied, hehe!

The project is located in the Jinjie Industrial Park in Shenmu, Yulin. The investment scale for its construction includes 2 plants with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year for polyvinyl chloride production, 2 plants with a capacity of 400,000 tons per year for ion-exchange membrane caustic soda production, and 2 plants for the comprehensive utilization of calcium carbide slag, with a total capacity of 1.2 million tons per year. In addition, there will be a back-pressure thermal power plant to support this project, with a total investment of 7.948 billion yuan. The project is constructed in two phases; in the first phase, facilities with an annual production capacity of 500,000 tons of polyvinyl chloride, 400,000 tons of ion-exchange membrane caustic soda, and 1.2 million tons of comprehensive utilization units for calcium carbide slag will be built, along with associated utility facilities. The total investment for this phase is 4.048 billion yuan. When the project was planned and construction began, the economic situation was favorable; it remains to be seen what the situation will be once construction is completed.
Are there any relevant feasibility studies? Our company is also interested in pursuing this project; could you share them for reference? wzkepco@yahoo.com.cn
I’m not sure how this industry is doing these days; it seems to be a declining industry. But I just graduated and started working in an enterprise in this sector. Well, I’ll just focus on gaining experience here for a few years first
