At which process stage is fusel oil generated, and from which point is it taken out of the process system?
It is recovered on the trays of the atmospheric tower (three-tower process) or the recovery tower (four-tower process) in the methanol distillation section.
Fusel oils are by-products of synthetic reactions; they are generated during the synthesis process and separated during distillation. The extraction points for fusel oils are generally located in the atmospheric pressure column, with nine such extraction points in total.

Fusel oils all originate from the synthesis section, being by-products of the synthesis process. It is withdrawn during the distillation process via the pre-column and the side stream of the atmospheric column or stripping column. The light fraction oil with a boiling point lower than that of methanol is separated at the top of the pre-tower, while the heavy fraction oil is obtained from the atmospheric tower or stripping tower; both of these are eventually collected in the same storage tank, known as fusel oil.
In the three-column process, in the pre-column and the main column, extraction is primarily carried out via side streams near the bottom of the main column.

Our process also involves four-column distillation; the product is taken from the middle and lower sections of the atmospheric pressure column, and then sent to a recovery column for further separation to obtain isobutyl oil.
The crude methanol produced contains some fusel oils; it is refined through two or three distillation columns. In the pre-distillation column, the liquid is removed from the reflux tank, and it is also cooled by a second cooler. In the atmospheric pressure column, the product is taken off at the side stream located in the middle to lower part of the stripping section.

Fusel alcohols are side products of synthetic reactions, forming during the synthesis process
