As the title suggests, what is the function of the baffle in a tee? What considerations should be taken into account during design?
The purpose of this baffle is to prevent the pig from passing through during pigging, thus avoiding the pig getting stuck in the tee; however, this baffle can also break off and cause the pig to get stuck, leading to a shutdown of the entire pipeline. Removing it is quite troublesome, and these days many places no longer use such baffles.
Elbows with baffle strips are usually used in pipelines where the presence of balls is a requirement; the function of the baffle strip is to prevent the balls from passing through, and the roundness of the pipeline must be taken into consideration during design.
The function of the intermediate baffle in tees is to be used in tees for long-distance pipelines; such tees are known as grid tees. Their main purpose is to prevent the ball from drifting into the branch line or getting stuck
