Question 1: 1. What materials are generally used in the manufacturing of gear couplings? 2. What are the various materials available, and what are their respective advantages? 3. How should the choice of material be determined? Are there any guidelines that can be referred to? 4. Is carburizing or nitriding required in the manufacturing process? Thank you!
.Cast iron: The commonly used grades are HT20-40, HT30-54, or QT60-2. Cast iron has low strength and impact toughness, and is commonly used for large gear rings or gear sets that are subject to light loads, no impact, and have a large number of teeth; for example, some of the large gears in the generating, feeding, and differential exchange gears of hobbing machines. 2. Forge steel – high-quality medium-carbon or low-carbon steel; high-quality medium-carbon or low-carbon alloys are the most commonly used materials for manufacturing drum gear couplings. Common grades of medium-carbon or low-carbon alloys include 45, 45Cr, 40MnNb, 40MnVB, 38CrMoA1A, etc. Among them, 38CrMoA1A is a nitrided steel; after nitriding, its surface hardness can reach HRC-65–70. Other various grades are usually heated at high frequencies and their surfaces are treated by flame hardening, resulting in a surface hardness of HRC48-53. 40Cr can also be subjected to nitriding treatment, giving a surface hardness of around HRC54-57. Gears that are subject to heavy impact loads can be made from low-carbon steel or low-carbon alloys; common grades include 20, 20Cr, 20CrMoTi, 20Mn2B, etc. :) We all use imported materials, from the Soviet Union
