The temperature of the gas at the outlet of the coal gasification furnace is in the thousands of degrees; how can its dust content be determined accurately?
Using window optical inspection might be applicable for online measurement. There are commercially available instruments that use the light transmittance of smoke for measurement; for example, here: http://www.chem17.com/st25090/sale_698598.html. Light flicker technology is currently the most accurate and reliable technique for monitoring dust concentration. The measurement principle for monitoring dust concentration using light scintillation technology is shown in the figure. This analyzer uses the “Dynamic Detection Principle”, namely DDP technology. The sensing system of the dust analyzer consists of a transmitting probe and a receiving probe located on both sides of the flue. A high-power light-emitting diode is installed in the transmitting probe; this diode emits light pulses of a fixed wavelength and frequency, which travel through the flue gases to reach the receiving probe. When dust in flue gas passes through the optical path between the transmitting probe and the receiving probe, it causes fluctuations in light intensity (that is, increases and decreases in light intensity). The amplitude of these light fluctuations is proportional to the dust concentration passing through the optical path; therefore, by measuring the amplitude of these light fluctuations, it is possible to determine the dust concentration in the flue gas.
