I am building an acid dilution tank to reduce the concentration of acid from 93% to 30%; the temperature of the acid after dilution is around 70 degrees. How should I prevent corrosion in this mixing tank?
A fiberglass tank equipped with a stirrer should suffice; however, the resin used for the fiberglass lining should be at least of the bisphenol A type 197#, and it’s better to use the vinyl type MFE-2#; Structural resin 887#, it’s better to use 199#. Spray coating is recommended: first, a ring of 20X20 steel mesh is spot-welded to the inner wall of the steel shell, and then plastic powder is sprayed on using a spray gun. It works very well. That’s the case with the shells of our inclined plate sedimentators; the acid concentration must not exceed 80%. Several companies in Yangzhou are capable of manufacturing them. In fact, it’s quite simple to do it oneself – once you’ve seen a specialized spray gun, you can use liquefied gas as fuel, and the thickness of the coating can be controlled at will. Answer: This is simple – you can use PP material, which can withstand temperatures of around 98 degrees Celsius. If your liquid contains oxidizing acids, it is recommended that you line the inside of the PP tank with white PVC sheeting. A 30% dilute acid at a temperature of 70°C: for large storage tanks, fiberglass can be used, such as ethylene-epoxy fiberglass; for medium-sized tanks, steel-lined tanks or polypropylene tanks with internal reinforcement can be employed; for small tanks, polypropylene is sufficient.
