When an emergency shutdown leads to a sealed reactor in the process of producing methanol from natural gas, the system pressure is maintained at a slight positive level. What is the advantage of this? We are top-firing box furnaces
Any flammable or combustible gas must be kept under positive pressure, so that no purging is required when it is reopened. If atmospheric pressure is allowed to prevail, air may enter and form an explosive mixture, posing a danger.
