Recently, during my experiments, I encountered some situations that I haven’t figured out yet; please let me know! I would like to express my gratitude. I applied the principles of the high-temperature combustion method along with the corresponding experimental equipment to the gas generated during the coking process. My intention was to burn the sulfur-containing substances such as H2S and COS at high temperatures in oxygen, converting them into SO3; thereafter, H2O2 was used to absorb this substance, followed by titration. However, after the reaction was complete, the H2O2 solution showed no reaction during my titration.
Could LZ explain more clearly what titrant you used? What is an indicator then?
Main process: Coking gas is fed into the combustion furnace (to which O2 has already been introduced). A 0.9% H2O2 solution is connected to the outlet end of the combustion furnace, and the temperature of the furnace is set at 800 degrees. After the flame in the combustion furnace disappears, wait for a while before starting the titration. The titration is started with a 0.3 mol/L NaOH solution; the indicator is prepared as a mixture of equal volumes of ethanol solutions of methyl red and methylene blue, and the titration is terminated when the color of the solution changes from peach pink to steel gray. However, when I added the indicator, there was not the slightest reaction! Note: The indicator has been tested and shows good performance.
