The foreign-language materials provided by Cobelon specify requirements for the mesh size of the filters, with each corresponding grade having a specific mesh size. Due to procurement reasons as well as cylinder pressure, a filter with a lower mesh size is required. How much impact does the mesh size of the filter have on the quality of the grade? Basically, the higher the mesh size of the filter, the higher the back pressure in the extruder, which makes it more difficult to achieve output; as a result, the residence time of the polymer increases, leading to better kneading effects. In short, if you don’t want the gel content in the product to be too high, I recommend using a filter with a higher mesh size. However, one thing to keep in mind is that a higher mesh size means increased power consumption; conversely, it reduces power consumption. Our company currently uses JSW (Nippon Steel), while yours uses Kobelco’s WP???
By using a filter screen, the back pressure increases, the amount of material returning flows increases, and the plasticizing and mixing effects are relatively better. However, overly fine filters can reduce output and even cause degradation of the material.
First of all, thank you all for your replies. We are using WP (Cobelon) machines, and after a period of use, the surface of the threaded components has worn out, along with oscillation issues. Will changing the mesh have an impact on the processing quality of downstream products? For example, could there be breaks in the filaments produced during the manufacturing of drawn products, and what is the likelihood of the appearance of fish eyes or unmelted polypropylene as a result of a decrease in mesh size?
