Hello, seniors! I am a coking temperature tester. Since I’ve only been learning this job for a short time, there are many things I don’t know yet. I’m working hard to learn, but a recent issue has left me frustrated – it relates to the calculation of the moisture content in the coal used in coking. Each technician uses a different method for this calculation, which makes it difficult for me to figure out the correct approach. In my opinion, it should be: weight of wet coal minus weight of dry coal, divided by weight of wet coal, and then multiplied by the percentage. Is this correct? Also, the drying temperature for wet coal should be around 300 degrees, with a drying time of about 3 hours, right?
The standards are different, but it seems to work too: subtract the weight of the wet coal from the weight of the dry coal, divide by the weight of the dry coal, and then multiply by the percentage.

Either method is acceptable; if you divide by wet coal, it is called the moisture content on an analytical basis, while if you divide by dry coal, it is called the moisture content on a dry basis. That should be it.

Analyzing moisture content is a reference indicator for the degree of coal metamorphism and weathering; the moisture contained in coal that has dried naturally is the inherent moisture of the coal. Moisture analysis of coal: Dried to a constant weight under conditions of 102–105, allowing all moisture to evaporate. The weight lost by coal is the moisture. Our factory keeps the moisture content of coal fed into the furnace at below 7 percent
According to the national standard GB/T 211-2007 \"Method for determining the total moisture content in coal\", the total moisture content in coal is calculated as: Mt = m1/m * 100. Here, Mt represents the total moisture content in the coal sample, expressed as a mass fraction in percent; m denotes the mass of the coal sample, measured in grams (g); and m1 represents the mass loss of the coal sample after drying, also in grams (g). In the coking production process, the moisture content specified refers to the total moisture in coal. According to the national standard, this value should be calculated based on the mass of the wet coal.
