The low operating pressure of the tower improves the efficiency of separating ethane from ethylene. Upfront investment increases. This process cannot be used if ethylene products are produced by fractional distillation (with the liquid product taken off as a side stream). Therefore, the post-hydrogenation process is generally not applicable.
